Renee Bernhard
Co-Founder/Executive Director

Renee is a former foster parent, a Foster Parent of the Year award recipient for Adams County, and a mother of three. A native of Colorado, Renee spent her early career working in emergency services at the US Consulate in Frankfurt, Germany. Within hours of becoming certified to be foster parents, Renee and Brian received their first placement, a baby boy they would adopt 2 years later. After closing their home to further placements, they founded Foster Source in the summer of 2016.

Brian Bernhard

Brian is a former foster parent and Foster Parent of the Year award recipient for Adams County. He has dedicated his career to the field of immigration. In addition to having worked for the government, he has also spent the last 15 years managing immigration law firms. Brian is passionate about foster care and providing the children in foster care resources they need, particularly those aging out of the system. Brian is a parent to three children, one of whom was adopted out of foster care. He’s a very active member of his church and associations focused on legal management.

Rebecca Allen

Rebecca Allen is currently president of The Allen Family Foundation, a charitable foundation she has greatly enjoyed running with her family for the last six years. Previously she worked for 10 years as a Nurse Practitioner in Women’s Health and Infertility until she and her husband decided to become Foster Parents. After fostering, Rebecca remained a stay-at-home mom to her bio daughter.

Maria Avila

Maria Avila is a caseworker in Foster Care and Kinship Certification and Support at Adams County Human Services Department (ACHSD). She has 20 years of experience working with families that provide care for children in out-of-home placements. Maria has a BA in psycology, a BS in international marketing and a MSW. Maria is also a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) in the State of Colorado. Maria is a married mother of two children. Maria and her husband were foster parents with Boulder County for two years, and they were foster parents for their daughter whom they adopted in 2006.

Sean Camacho
Board of Directors - Director

Sean is a member of Dentons’ Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice group in the Denver office, where he focuses on commercial and government contracts litigation, consumer products law, and helping clients navigate the intersection of law, politics, and public policy. He has represented clients in arbitrations and before state and federal courts. Sean has also worked closely with Dentons’ Public Policy and Regulation group to represent clients’ interests at the state level. He received his J.D. from Suffolk University Law School, magna cum laude. Before law school, he served as an Air Force officer at duty stations in the United States and overseas.

Matt LaCrue

Matthew La Crue specializes in state and local government affairs and has over a decade of experience representing clients nationally and locally. Matthew has extensive experience and knowledge crafting and lobbying on policy related to local governments, finance, real estate, judicial, law enforcement, transportation, healthcare, energy, insurance, aerospace and telecommunications.

Adrienne Parrot

Adrienne grew up as an only child and always wanted a large family. She fostered as a single parent from 1990 through 2005 when she met her husband. He grew up in foster care in Oklahoma and totally understood the need for positive foster families and the journey of these children.
Over the years of fostering until 2012, her family has gained so many positive strengths, knowledge, patience, an invaluable sense of humor, how to keep going when you wanted to give up and the value of commitment. They grew as a family from 4 boys initially to a total of 5 boys and 5 girls. Her youngest adopted son came to them as a foster child at the age of 4 with a host of special needs. He is now 17.
Adrienne no longer actively fosters, but her heart desires to participate in anything she can to encourage families to foster and to continue fostering.

Kriss Porco

Kriss is a native New Yorker, who along with her husband of over thirty years, decided to call Colorado home over 23 years ago. Working primarily in the financial services sector most of her career, Kriss has over 15 years of experience in marketing and communications. Kriss was introduced to Foster Source a few years ago through her current organization, Thrivent. With her business experience and her care for community, she looks forward to learning firsthand about the needs of the foster care community and how she can make a difference. Kriss is married with two identical twin daughters who are 22 years old.

Tonya Van Beber

Tonya is a third generation native of Colorado and Weld County. Tonya received her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Northern Colorado in Social Sciences/Psychology. She was a Colorado House Representative (House District 48) after several decades in education and publishing. As a former foster parent, advocacy for foster care and adoption has been a focal point outside of the classroom.

Karen Wolf

Karen Wolf is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker; born and raised in the Denver metro area. Karen has extensive experience working with children and families who have experienced trauma and has a strong passion for the foster care community. Providing support and education about trauma-informed care, child development, and self-care are essential to making the foster parent experience work in the long term and Karen is dedicated to providing that education and advocating for better pathways to ensuring all foster parents have access to the information they need to foster longer!

Jody Britton

Jody spent 18 years as a stay-at-home mom to six children (3 biological, 2 adopted, 1 kinship). She began her pursuit of a Social Work degree at MSU Denver in the fall of 2017. Jody has been a community advocate for foster care and adoption since 2008, organizing support groups and educational events. She became a kinship foster mother in 2017. Jody is passionate about supporting foster and adoptive parents and advocating for vulnerable youth.

Vincen Collins

Vincen was born and raised in Colorado with over 15 years of experience as a technical agile coach and IT manager with a wealth of knowledge in collaborating with various stakeholders to define and deliver value streams through the use of technology. Vincen and his wife Doreen are former foster parents and through the use of technology want to help other foster parents successfully navigate their journey as well. Vincen plays ice hockey in an adult league and has a 1957 Chevy that he occasionally takes to car shows.

Sydney Dalton

Sydney is a senior at Metropolitan State University of Denver earning her Bachelor of Science in Social Work. She has hopes to continue her social work education at the graduate level. She is from the Denver area and enjoys getting to the mountains on the weekends to camp and hike with her husband and their dog Charlie. She’s excited about her internship at Foster Source and eager to learn more about how to best support foster parents and their families

Sydney McKinney
Team Member

Sydney is currently working toward a Masters in Social Work, and will be interning with Foster Source this year. Graduating from Prairie View High School in 2014, she is no stranger to the Adams County area. Sydney attended the University of Oregon where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Family and Human Services, with a minor in Women’s. and Gender Studies. She is passionate about working within our community, which includes serving on the Board of Directors for the Richard Lambert Foundation, a nonprofit that provides affordable grief counseling. Prior to her time with Foster Source, Sydney worked at the City of Brighton in a few different roles. At Foster Source, she is looking forward to continuing to work with the Adams County community, supporting clients, and learning more about child welfare. She has extensive experience in youth program development, specifically pertaining to college and career readiness, and outdoor leadership. Previously, Sydney spent many summers leading backpacking trips for 8-15 year olds outside of Durango, CO. She has traveled to 15 different countries. In her free time, Sydney enjoys running half marathons!

Gloria Miller

Gloria is a senior at Metropolitan State University of Denver. She is working towards a Bachelor of Science in Social Work and is thrilled to be completing her internship at Foster Source supporting, encouraging and advocating for foster and kinship families while cultivating an engaging dialogue between foster and kinship families and the public. Gloria is a Denver native and enjoys all the artsy spots from Meow Wolf to Wax Trax. When not out and about, she loves reading and creative writing.

Candice Moore

Candice is a former foster parent and adoptive parent of two. Originally from Southern California, Candice moved to Northern Colorado with her husband in 2014 and became foster parents in 2016. After taking care of 10 children/teens over the course of four years, they closed their foster license so Candice could focus on obtaining a degree in Social Work from the Metropolitan State University of Denver. Candice is passionate about helping foster, kinship, and adoptive families in Northern Colorado and is the Weld County Ambassador for Foster Source & Cobbled Streets.

Katrina Nicholson

Originally from Mississippi, Katrina has lived in Colorado for 8+ years with her husband, four children, and amazing grandson. Katrina is currently a BSSW student at Metropolitan State University in Denver and is looking forward to graduating in May of 2023. She calls herself a jack of all trades in the professional realm, with experience in human resources, as a paralegal, childcare as a lead teacher (9+ years), administration, and call center training. These many areas of experience plus life encounters have created a passion in social work. She is a social butterfly who loves everything and anything concerning people. Katrina is excited to be joining such an amazing group of folks who are passionate about foster parents and kinship families.

Kathryn Witcher-Bolt

Kathryn is originally from Anderson, SC and moved to Colorado about 4 years ago. She majored in Marketing and Spanish at the College of Charleston and has since worked on campaigns, at universities and currently at a technology company in operations. She went back to school about a year ago to pursue a MSW with hopes of working in the juvenile problem solving courts or pursuing research in the field. She has volunteered with teenagers (12-18) for about 7 years and helped teach budgeting at family planning non-profits. She is so happy to be joining the Foster Source team and hopes she can support the team well this year!
